When you are not able to find a perfect solution for a problem then the situation becomes worse. I was also going through a problem when I was not able to move Outlook message files into Outlook for Mac. A few days back my manager bought a new Apple laptop. One day he asked me to send him all the Outlook message file that too in a file format which is compatible with Mac based Outlook. Then I noticed that the Outlook messages files have .msg file extension<\/a><\/strong>. I was stuck as I did not know what to do? Then I searched on Google and got to know that to access .msg files on Apple laptop I have to convert them into OLM file type. Moreover, there was the number of ways to perform this task. But, before moving further first I tried to understand the two different file formats that were OLM and MSG.<\/span><\/p>\n

About MSG & OLM File Formats<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n

MSG<\/strong> \u2013 An MSG is mail message file which can save the email messages, contacts, appointments, tasks etc. Moreover, .msg is the file extension generated by MS Outlook or Exchange Server.<\/p>\n

OLM<\/strong> \u2013 The OLM file stores email messages, contacts, calendars etc. Basically,\u00a0OLM file<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is a database file used by Outlook for Mac. These files are only compatible with Mac Outlook and cannot be opened with Outlook for Windows.<\/p>\n

After knowing that Windows Outlook does not support OLM files. Then I got to know that why my manager asked to convert Outlook message files into Outlook for Mac. However, I started searching for a solution on the Internet. I found two different methods to access Outlook MSG on an Apple machine. Now, I am going to discuss those methods with you in the section given below.<\/p>\n

Methods to Convert MSG to OLM File Formats<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n

There are two methods using which a user can convert Outlook message files to Outlook for Mac. The first method is divided into two steps whereas the second method is a direct solution.<\/p>\n

Method 1: Manual Approach<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This method is divided into two steps. The user first have to convert MSG file to PST then he\/she have to import that PST file into Outlook for Mac<\/p>\n

Step 1: Convert MSG file to PST \u2013 Drag and Drop Method<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. First, you have to open\u00a0Microsoft Outlook<\/strong>\u00a0on your local machine<\/li>\n
  2. Now, create a new folder in Outlook<\/li>\n
  3. After that, you have to select the MSG file and then just\u00a0drag and drop<\/strong>\u00a0those MSG files into the new folder<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Now, your MSG files are converted into PST file type. After this, copy the PST files in a pen drive so that you can move those PST files in Outlook for Mac. Connect your pen drive to Apple machine and then copy and paste PST files to the desired location like Desktop.<\/p>\n

    Step 2: Import the PST file into Outlook for Mac<\/strong><\/p>\n

    1. First, you have to open\u00a0Outlook for Mac<\/strong>\u00a0on your\u00a0Apple\u00a0<\/strong>machine<\/li>\n
    2. Now, click on the\u00a0File<\/strong>\u00a0menu and click on the\u00a0Import<\/strong>\u00a0option<\/li>\n
    3. After that, you will see an\u00a0Import<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box with three options that are:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
